Does Dudley Ladies Proud at Race For LifeMary Lavender again
did Dudley Ladies proud when she organised yet another successful turnout at
the Race for Life at Sandwell Valley on 8th June.
Mary organised everything from getting the runners to enter, to making
pink heart labels and supplying Marshalls in between giving interviews to
Beacon Radio News and sorting out any problems on the day. So a big thank
you goes out to her from everyone.
The race itself was run in blisteringly hot conditions over a very dusty
and undulating course which coupled with the fact that over 3000 runners and
walkers were all trying to fit on to a track just over 6 yards wide made
free running very difficult.
None the less Carrie Creamer worked her way to the front and led the race
right up to the final straight were she was agonisingly out sprinted by two
bright young things and Carrie had to settle for third place. Not bad for a
lady who only started running last year. So well done Carrie.
Behind Carrie were just too many Dudley Ladies to mention, so apologies
to all those, although special mention must be made of Liz Tilt, Debbie
Willitts and Ruth Burton who haven't yet finished their beginners course but
finished the race in style complete with enormous smiles on their faces.
