Sweating For Bread
The highly
acclaimed Fizzog Theatre Company, starring Dudley Ladies very own Jacky
Fellows, shown third right in the photograph below is about to go on
tour to various Primary Schools around the Black Country with their
brand new T-I-E show, 'Sweating For Bread'
The show has been
done in partnership
with the internationally renowned Black Country Museum of Living
History in Dudley and although the
performance is designed for Key Stage 2 children, the show is suitable
for a whole school audience.
The show, ‘Sweating for Bread’ details the
working and daily lives of four Black Country youngsters in the late
1800s as they go about their various trades in the brickyards,
chain-making, rag-picking, and ‘in service’ to a local wealthy family.
The performance
aims to highlight such issues as child labour and related social
conditions as well as providing an entertaining insight into aspects of
the history and culture of our locale. This is followed by a 30 minute
workshop which is tailored to accommodate the whole of Key Stage 2.
Through assistance from
Arts Council West Midlands, Fizzog are
able to
offer this show to schools at a cost of £200 per school and tour dates
are available in June and July 2007.
Jacky says that they have no technical
requirements beyond the provision of a school hall and an accessible
power supply.
The Black Country
Museum of Living History is also offering to each
participating school, a number of discount family tickets for the
museum. These would enable children and their families to visit the
Museum over the summer break, where they would be able to watch Fizzog
bringing to life, their ‘Sweating for Bread’ characters ‘twenty five
years on’.
