Ladies Nearly Famous
A couple of weeks ago,
Dudley Ladies RC were visited by Endemol, the TV Company that produces “Big
Brother”
They asked for our help
in producing a TV program for the BBC called “Run for Glory” which is due to
commence on Thursday evening 2nd March at 7.00pm in which 13
people from around the country volunteer to train for the grueling 26.2 mile
London Marathon in just six months
This is a huge
undertaking for the volunteers, because not only are they unfit, many are
battling personal traumas from cancer to disabling road accidents. World
class athletes Sally Gunnell and Steve Cram are their tough coaches to help
get them through.
DL was asked to
organize a 13 mile course for the volunteers to run as well as provide as
many other runners as possible to give them encouragement and support during
the run.
All
the preparation work was done, the course sorted and the willing DL runners
organized and everything was in place to commence filming but unfortunately
for us, arrangements and requirements by the production team were changed at
the last minute and the filming had to be moved to a different location so
we missed out on being on TV
This is the second time
that we’ve been approached by TV people, so at least we now know that the
media are aware of us and who knows when something like this will crop up
again.
