OAP's
Day Out At Birmingham Hydro Run
Marion Willetts writes
Just a
short report about the race this morning.
Eileen, Ann and I set off at 8.30am this morning for the Hydro Women’s
Challenge in Birmingham. We tried ‘Ring a Ride’ for transport but they
would not cross council boundaries so Ann’s husband Roger acted as
chauffeur, bless him
After
a rousing warm up with some aerobic ladies we made our way to the start,
only to be kept waiting 15 minutes for the sound of the Claxton and a
wave of the flag. - We were off.
Many
people lined the route, waved and cheered us along Broad Street and on
to the Hagley Road via the underpass.
There
was the usual crescendo of noise from ‘the lunatic fringe’ (all 200
0
runners) – shouting and screaming as they ran through the underpass. At
the 2k marker some elite runners were returning on the other side of the
road, however, there was no despondency as we pressed on towards TGI
Friday’s. This was the midway point and we were homeward bound. The
crowds continued to encourage us all particularly over the last 1km.
We all
finished in respectable times, collected our medals and received a
massive ‘goody bag’.
Back
at the finish we meet up with Jayne Tibbetts, Roni, and Siva – all
Dudley Ladies runners. We all enjoyed the race with the weather ideal
for running.
By the
way in the goody bag were plasters, 2 different Muscle rub lotions and
well women tablets. Did they have OAPs in mind?
